How do I vote?

A couple of weeks before each election polling cards are delivered to all people who are registered to vote in that election. The polling card tells you when, where and how you can vote.

You go along to the polling station shown on the card, give your address and name, and you are given a ballot paper.

You mark your votes in secret on the ballot paper in a cubicle and put it in the secure ballot box. The ballot boxes will only be opened after the polling stations have closed when they are taken to a central count. No one knows how you voted.

I want to vote by post!

Many people are finding it easier to post off their vote in advance, if they foresee problems getting to the polling station. You have the right to vote by post, and you don't have to give a reason. However, you must apply in advance for a postal vote.

If you want to vote by post please download and print the form, or phone Mitcham and Morden Labour Party on 020 8542 4835.

Postal ballot papers are sent out in the week before polling day.

I'm not registered to vote – what can I do?

Every property is delivered a form for a yearly full update of the register in the autumn. If you move house outside of that time, or you are not registered for another reason, you can apply to be added through monthly alterations.

If you are unsure whether or not you are registered, Merton Council's electoral services team will be pleased to check for your name on the register. 020 8542 3407, or you can email your inquiry to electoral.services@merton.gov.uk.

You can now register to vote throughout the year. If you would like further details on "rolling registration" please visit the Rolling Registration website.
