Cllr. Stuart Neaverson
Labour Councillor for Colliers Wood
Mobile: 07424 365169
Before becoming a councillor, Stuart Neaverson worked for a number of environmental and fuel poverty charities, and has made protecting and enhancing Colliers Woods’ wonderful green spaces one of his top priorities.
Stuart has been heavily involved in the campaign to hold Criterion Capital, owners of the Colliers Wood Tower, to account. He has spent months forcing them to fix their windows after a pane fell out of the building, and supported residents inside the building when their hot water went out for a month.
Stuart is dead against Criterion building three more towers in Colliers Wood when they have proved themselves unable of looking after the one tower they do have. He continues to push Criterion to repay the £3million they owe the council, who had to step in to protect residents when Criterion wouldn’t.
Outside of his work on the council, Stuart is also a local school governor and is regularly involved with our local residents association and green spaces group. Alongside taking part in litter picks and volunteering at community events, he especially enjoys the days where he gets to put on waders and help clean the Wandle River of invasive weeds and litter!

Michael Butcher Labour Councillor for Cricket Green
Mobile: 07594 674420
Michael Butcher has lived in Mitcham his whole life, having been born at St Helier Hospital and attended SS Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School, where he now serves as a School Governor. Michael learnt to swim at the Canons, played football in Mitcham Little League and he used to march in parade as part of the 11th Mitcham Scouts.
Michael learnt to play the guitar at primary school when he was just 9 years old and you might have seen him playing or singing in one of Mitcham’s pubs. Michael has played in a few different bands, but he says a highlight was Merton’s 60th Birthday celebrations last year, where Michael got to sing live on stage with Sean Williamson (Eastenders’ Barry!)
Michael knows exactly the challenges faced by Mitcham residents. He recently got married, and like many young people, he and his wife are currently trying to buy their first home where they can raise a family right where he grew up.
Michael was delighted to play a leading role recently in both securing a banking hub for Mitcham Town Centre and the campaign to keep Mitcham Police Station open.

Cllr. Agatha Akyigyina
Labour Councillor for Figges Marsh
Mobile: 07876 370 527
Agatha Akygyina was born in Ghana and settled in Britain in 1965. She has lived in the same home in Mitcham for 45 years and has proudly served as a local councillor and has volunteered in various capacities for more than three decades.

Agatha always believed that Mitcham is a truly special place — a diverse and welcoming community where neighbours look out for one another. Through her involvement with the Ghanaian Parents Association and various local parent and community groups, she has worked to bring people together from all backgrounds to share experiences, support one another, and strengthen our community ties.
In 2017, Agatha was awarded an OBE for Political and Public service by the late Queen in recognition of all her community work.
-
Cllr. Dan Johnston
Labour Councillor for Figges Marsh
Mobile: 07404 993 866
Dan Johnston grew up on Sadler Close in the heart of Mitcham and went to St Peter and Paul’s Primary School. He saw first-hand what it means when housing standards fall short — the leaks, the broken benches, the frustration of waiting for repairs that take too long to happen.
Those experiences have driven Dan to work to improve housing in Mitcham, pressing Clarion to take responsibility – tackling long-running leaks and potholes, fixing broken benches, cleaning up graffiti, and improving life on estates. He brought residents directly into the council meetings so they could tell Clarion and other housing associations what it’s really like to live on their estate. And Dan forced Clarion to introduce “before and after” photos for every repair, driving up standards across our estates.
But Dan cares about more than holding housing associations to account. He wants to build pride in Mitcham. Dan helped secure funding to get the Saints BMX track back to racing standard, supported bulb planting projects in the town centre, and worked alongside our brilliant town centre manager to bring more community events and activities right into the heart of Mitcham.
-
Cllr. Franca Ofeimu
Labour Councillor for Figges Marsh
Mobile: 07818 913 201

Franca’s main focus as a Councillor is on young people and their well-being. As a result, some of you may have noticed more youth activities taking place in the town centres, and Franca is really proud that Brenley Park now has gym equipment and a bookshelf for young people and residents to enjoy.
Since joining the Figges Marsh Labour Action Team, Franca has been campaigning for causes including efforts to save St. Helier Hospital, and previously to keep the Barclays Bank in Mitcham open, which sadly still ended up closing. More recently, she has been campaigning for Mitcham to have its own community banking hub to ensure local residents aren’t left without access to vital services when Lloyds closes its bank. She has also been involved in the campaign to save Mitcham Police Station.
In her spare time, Franca volunteers at her church, helping younger members of the church community.

Harry Platts
Labour Candidate for Lavender Fields
Mobile: 07779 203234
Twenty-eight-year-old Harry Platts is originally from Dover in Kent and has lived in Merton for over four years, now. He and his partner have bought their first home in the local area and are excited to put down roots here.
During this time, Harry has played a leading role in re-establishing the borough’s dedicated LGBTQ+ community group. In August 2025, these efforts culminated in the first-ever Merton Pride – a landmark celebration for the borough’s LGBTQ+ community that saw over 500 people march the Wandle Trail from Morden Hall Park to Merton Abbey Mills. It was a fantastic day that brought together volunteer groups, performers, sports clubs, businesses, churches, and more from across the borough.
A lifelong history enthusiast, Harry has turned his passion into a career as an archaeologist. He volunteered on his first dig at 13 and has been getting his hands dirty ever since, come rain or shine. His claim to fame is discovering a Bronze Age treasure hoard. Now supervising his own sites, he continues to unearth London’s hidden stories in his day job – though he’s yet to find a dinosaur!

Cllr. Slawek Szczepanski
Labour Councillor for Lavender Fields
Mobile: 07917 401064
Slawek Szczepanski was born in Poznań, Poland, and came to the UK in his early twenties. Like many new arrivals, Slawek had to rebuild everything from scratch: language, work, stability and he made Merton his home for his family. He built a career in sales and project management, rising to senior project director for a major automotive brand.
His passion for community work led him to become Chief Executive of the Polish Family Association (PFA). Since 2011 PFA has evolved into a multi-service hub supporting families, new arrivals and underserved groups with advice, skills, food resilience, health-inequality prevention and integration support, including for families fleeing Russia’s war against Ukraine.
In Lavender Fields, Slawek supported South Mitcham Community Centre’s expansion and refurbishment bids, led the ward’s bulb-planting initiative, and championed community growing with local allotments to strengthen neighbourhood pride and connection.
In 2024/25 Slawek had the honour of serving as Mayor of Merton. He has a clear belief: London democracy must remain open, welcoming and rooted in lived experience and introduced multi-faith, inclusive prayers at Council meetings, instead of a single chaplain, to reflect the real Merton of today.

Dan Hogan

By applying for grants she has funded nine new park benches, had some of the children’s playground and equipment repaired and had thousands of daffodils to be planted. Sally goes out litter picking in the park, although if people didn’t drop litter, she wouldn’t have to.
Her largest application was to improve accessibility for park users. She won funding for the path from the car park entrance from Tudor Drive to the children’s playground to be widened, enabling easy access.
Sally is a member of Emmanuel, her local church, and supports the local FISH group who meet each Monday at Morden Baptist Church. Many of you will also know Sally from when she walks her daughter’s dog, Archie, who sadly is now becoming deaf. She is a season ticket holder with AFC Wimbledon.

Andrew led the Council from a weak position to one of excellence, introducing cleaner streets, removal of graffiti, fly tips and abandoned vehicles. He introduced landlord licensing successfully for our worst affected areas, improving hundreds of properties.
Under his leadership, Children’s Services rapidly improved and Merton had the best education outcomes for children in care. Andrew improved school buildings including kitchens and started two secondary academies which are successful. One of his proudest achievements are the new playing fields and pavilion for the Ursuline High School.
Andrew stopped the initial proposed closure of St Helier Hospital in 2003 by bringing in the Secretary of State for Health to intervene. And he gave evidence to the FA to try to stop the move of Wimbledon FC to Milton Keynes: afterwards identifying the new stadium site and changing our planning policy to enable AFC to return home.

Cannon Hill Labour Action Team
The Cannon Hill ward was moved into Mitcham and Morden constituency just before the 2024 general election following boundary changes designed to even up the sizes of constituencies around the country. Previously it was in Wimbledon constituency. And of course, Cannon Hill remains part of the London Borough of Merton.
We are just putting together our Labour Action Team for Cannon Hill. If you would like to join in, and help make a difference for your community, please get in touch.
