Labour retains Merton Council, gains new councillors
Newly elected Merton Councillors
Tens of thousands of residents across Merton went to the polls on 7th May 2026 to elect councillors to all 57 seats on the Council. In the early hours of 8th May, the results were finally announced, leaving the political split of the council as 32 Labour councillors, 19 Liberal Democrat councillors, 4 Conservative councillors and 2 Merton Park Ward Independents councillors. The total turnout was 45.15%.
Ten wards across Mitcham and Morden are now represented by 3 Labour councillors. The ward breakdown is as follows:
Cricket Green: Michael Butcher, Usaama Kaweesa, Gill Manly.
Colliers Wood: Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, Stuart Neaverson, Joanna Sieradzinska.
Figges Marsh: Agatha Akyigyina, Dan Johnston, Franca Ofeimu.
Graveney: Billy Hayes, Linda Kirby, Devina Paul.
Lavender Fields: Edith Macauley, Harry Platts, Slawek Szczepanski.
Longthornton: Brenda Fraser, Ross Garrod, Sonia Phillips.
Lower Morden: Dan Hogan, Sally Kenny, Dan Shearer.
Pollards Hill: Joan Henry, Ryan Rodrigues, Martin Whelton.
Ravensbury: Stephen Alambritis, Val Hoppichler, Peter McCabe.
St Helier: Nedra Daniel, Andrew Judge, Shuile Syeda.

As the Labour Party won the majority of seats, they will form the next administration and Merton Council will stay safely under Labour control.
