Thousands enjoy day of free fun at Merton’s Big Sports Day
Mitcham & Morden
Merton hosted its third annual Big Sports Day in Morden Park in September, putting on a fun-packed day for all the family, with dozens of new sports and activities for people to try for free. The event was a huge hit, attracting more than 8,000 local residents from across the community, an increase of over 1,000 on last year.
The Big Sports Day is part of the Labour-run Council’s ambition to make Merton the Borough of Sport, breaking down barriers and opening up access to sport by providing more free and low-cost sport and activities across the borough.
If Labour is re-elected to run Merton Council in May 2026, we promise to hold the Big Sports Day for a fourth year in September 2026. But the Liberal Democrats have consistently opposed the Borough of Sport – just one more example of politics being about choices. The choices Labour makes in Merton are on the side of local residents’ priorities.
But you don’t need to wait for Sports Day each year to get free access to sport and activity. All the while Labour runs Merton Council, under-16s and over-65s can take advantage of our free swimming offer in Merton leisure centres all year round, and anyone can find a free activity near them by visiting our Activity Finder – follow this link to find out more.
