Special Resident’s Briefing about the NHS

Siobhain McDonagh MP and the local Labour Action Teams are holding a special briefing for Mitcham and Morden residents about the NHS on Saturday 19 July at 10.30am at Morden Baptist Church, Crown Lane, Morden, SM4 5BL.

The Labour Government has just announced 21 million for our local hospitals, with over £9m for vital maintenance at St George’s and a further £12m for St Helier and Epsom hospitals to help prevent appointments and operations from being cancelled.

The money will start to fix the backlog of maintenance that built up over the last 14 years when the Tory Government allowed hospitals to crumble, with burst pipes flooding emergency departments, faulty electrical systems shutting down operating theatres and mothers giving birth in outdated facilities that lack basic dignity.

But this is just a start. Labour inherited an NHS on its knees, with waiting lists at a record high, and patient satisfaction at a record low. We know that fundamental and necessary reforms are needed for our health services so that people get the care they need, when they need it. That is why we are having this special briefing for local residents.
